You probably have dark pigmentation on some parts of your face. They make your skin look less stellar, which makes you feel really terrible. And now you are wondering whether you will ever enjoy that youthful glow on your skin again. According to specialists, the cause of those dark pigmentations is what they have termed as melasma. Stress has also been associated with these dark pigmentations. Whereas some have sought for the remedy in whitening creams, these creams cannot be counted on any longer.
Visit your dermatologist or doctor right away. Consult with him about the possibilities of getting a chemical peel. This procedure is believed to do wonders when it comes to treating melasma. The doctor will administer chemical solutions on your face. The reaction of the solution will be evident with the exfoliation of the dead skin. Consequently, a fresh, younger skin free of blemishes and wrinkles will be revealed, giving you a whole new complexion. The results are twofold: eliminating discoloration and staving off aging.
The solution used in this procedure is derived from acid. It is quite strong, and that is why its only an expert who can ascertain the proportion of the chemical that is enough for you. You would not want to try doing it yourself, as the results could be very disastrous. You could end up burning your skin and make your condition even worse. There are usually three forms of chemical peels:
1.The Light peel this is the mildest and consists of glycolic, lactic, fruit, and salicylic acids. The stinging pain or discomfort is minimal and that is why there is usually no anesthesia administered. The entire procedure takes a couple of minutes, after which you can still continue with your days routine.
2.The Medium peel – this one uses trichloroacetic acids for the peeling chemical solution. It has to be done by a doctor, and may involve anesthesia for individuals with low tolerance for pain. You will be required to visit the clinic for a couple of months after for another round. However, the recovery process is pretty fast.
3.The Deep peel it uses phenol acid and usually recommended for specific individuals as the solution is quite strong. Its only if you are suffering from extreme skin conditions that the doctor will perform such a procedure on you.
Any recklessness in the application of these acids could burn your skin, and bring scars. The prices of these procedures vary, with some going as high as $1000. What a price tag for a younger looking skin!
There is yet another option for those who may not want to go the acid way. This apparently recent procedure called Cosmelan is believed to be safe for all skin types. The treatment simply restrains the production of tyrosinase, an enzyme responsible for the creation of melanin. During the procedure, you will be required to wear a special mask prior to the application of the cream and after that, you will be asked to apply the cream regularly.
The only setback of this procedure is that it consists of strong de-pigmenting agents. Otherwise, it has proved to be very effective and even cheaper than the chemical peel. However, you need to be cautious of the substances in the list of ingredients as some of them have been said to aggravate the chances of one succumbing to cancer. You therefore need to seek your doctors opinion first so as to get the best choice of product.
