Reviewed: Good and BAD things about Amberen
By Mari Kai
Stevie Nicks once said this about menopause,
Rock and menopause do not mix. It is not good, it sucks and every day I fight it to the death, or, at the very least, not let it take me over.
Yes. Menopause is that dreadful. Hormone levels goes out of whack. Irregular bleeding, hot flashes, mood swings, extreme fatique and insomnia could happen because of it. Frankly, it sucks. I'd bet everyone in that state thinks, "if there only something that I can take to make this go away."
Well. medical sciences have improved and there are many menopause relief product on the market. One of the new ones is called Amberen. Amberen promises to bring menopause relief with all-natural ingredients with no side effects and cheap price. That's a lot of things to promise and I don't like to take things for granted. So I did some research and come up with some good and some BAD things about them. So here's my opinion about them.
Good Things about Amberen
- Amberen have double-blind, placebo-controlled clinical study to back it up. Meaning that, simply, it works and they got the proof to back it up.
- It's a non-hormonal treatment but fuctions like a hormonal treatment. When you enter your menopause or perimenopause stage, Communication between hypothalamus (let's say it's the head office) and hormone-producing system (let's say it's the factory) is disrupted. Their phone line was cut. The factory might want to produce or not produce hormone at all, there's lack of communication between the head office and the factory. Amberen restores the phone line so they can communicate again, hence start producing the correct amount of what our body thinks the balance hormone levels. Amberen is just the catalyst for a better communication between them. It restores energy metabolism like a hormonal treatment. This means that Amberen is easily combined with any medication that you currently have because of it's unique properties.
- It doesn't have to be taken 365 days a year in their usage dosage. This is the funny thing, it works like this: take Amberen for 3 months, rest for 3 months, take it again for 3 months, and another 3 months rest. So it's more economical to maintain. Although the rest period varies between person to person. It can be shorter or longer. Resting time varies between person to person though, and you can just opt to 'feel' when your body needs Amberen again.
- They have a free trial, a BBB (Better Business Bureau) accredited business badge, and a 30-days money back guarantee which means they're credible to do business with.
- It only contains only 100% natural ingredients. All are on FDA’s approved Generally Recognized As Safe (GRAS) list.
- If you contact the company directly they will send you the Clinical Manuscript for your doctor to review to safeguard from your previous medical conditions and history.
- Their free trial have no No Recurring Charges, No Autoship Programs, No Cancellation fees. Which is good. Read their terms and conditions on their website here.
Okay that's the good things. What about the BAD things? Here ya go.
BAD Things about Amberen
- That clinical research is done in Russia. This is not necessarily a bad thing since their medical sciences is also advanced. But for some this can bring doubts.
- There are some reports of mild side effects such as headaches and itching caused by a small percentage of MSG inside Amberen. While it's function acts as a neurotransmitter for the treatment, some people with really high MSG sensitivity can be affected.
- There are some rumors that the dosage in the commercial product is less than the product tested in the clinical research. This have caused some women to attain the desired result when they upped the dosage themselves. For others, the recommended dosage bring them instant relief. So It's up to you to 'feel' the dosage that you need.
- Not for persons with hyperthyroid conditions. It's advised not to consume Amberen before consulting with their physician.
So the conclusion is: Amberen does deliver result although some reported they have to increase the dosage of the treatment. There's no such thing as a perfect thing, so you have to take this in consideration before buying the product. Good news is, they have a solid free-trial offer, so you can try their 1 month supply to determine your dosage. This way you can calculate your monthly spending and budget.

All the best for you.

It does work but if it is all natural then why am I getting bad headaches everytime I take it? Do they know what in the ingredients is causing the headaches.?
March 12th, 2010 at 1:21 pm
Hi Sarah,
I’m glad that Amberen works for you.
Unfortunately, a common side effect associated with Amberen is headaches. Granted that only a low percentage of users that have that issue, but I guess that means that you’re one of those.
If the headaches are too much, you might want to readjust your dosage.
Please keep me updated with your progress.

I have met with a number of women who have used Amberen and only a few have reported side effects. Every drug will have some side effects for some people after all, even it is herbal. The potential benefits outweigh any minor inconveniences and any side effects would be temporary in nature and would not have any significant long term effects. Try it out and see if it works for you is my advice.
March 19th, 2010 at 8:21 pm
Monosodium glutamate is the third listed ingredient-MSG headaches are an allergy to MSG and could be why some are having them.
March 20th, 2010 at 1:27 am
Hi Toni,
Good observation on the ingredients.. Actually, I mention this in Empowher before. Amberen does have MSG in it’s ingredients as a neurotransmitter. Think of it as a means of transport to make the treatment work.
Now, please take note that the amount of MSG in Amberen is significantly less than what you would normally take. Chances of getting a reaction just from the MSG is really low, unless the person is hyper-sensitive.

I am in the very pre-stages of menopause experiencing periodic night sweats, fatigue and weight gain. I still have somewhat normal cycles and no major hot flashes during the day. Is Amberen still okay to use?
March 24th, 2010 at 1:20 am
Hi Shelly,
Yes, Amberen stated that they’re also helpful for perimenopause stages. What you should look out for is the dosage. I’d start with the recommended dosage first, then ‘feel’ my dosage along the way. It could be less.
If you have any doubts at all, I strongly suggest consulting to your physician beforehand.
I hope this helps.

How long is this useful? I am 53 yrs old & just started about a week ago. I wonder how long I should take this? It is working quite well. I neglected to take it one morning & all the symptoms came back right away. So I took it later on that day & Amberen made all the difference immediately.
April 3rd, 2010 at 1:53 am
Hey Holly,
It’s great that you feel the difference immediately.
It’s recommended that Amberen is taken in a 3 month interval. So take Amberen for 3 months first, then rest for 3 months.
Rinse and repeat until your body adjust your hormone levels.
Hope this helps!

Mari Kai -
I think you should add the fact that Amberen has MSG in it to the list of "BAD things" about Amberen. There are many people who consider MSG a neurotoxin, not a neurotransmitter.
April 6th, 2010 at 4:44 am
Hi Priscilla,
A nice input since I’ve a lot of questions about that. Why didn’t I think of it sooner?
I’ve updated the post accordingly.
April 7th, 2010 at 12:34 am
MSG is a neurotoxin. Do a little research and it is not hard to find much scientific data to support that. There are alot more people who are sensitive to msg than one would think…many don't even know it themselves but suffer the reactions never knowing what they are reacting to. Simply getting a headache is minor in comparison to how badly MSG affects those who are sensitive and even those who are not - there is alot more to it than just that. This sounds like such a great product, my only hope is the manufacturers can find a better "neurotransmitter" for this product.
April 7th, 2010 at 1:18 am
Hi Mellie,
Actually, we’re kinda off topic, but since you’ve mentioned data it piqued my interests. This is what I’ve known already. Bear in mind that the MSG amount in Amberen is really small compared to these data.
First of all, this is from wikipedia: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Glutamic_acid_%28flavor%29
Second, National Academies Press: Effects of Nutrients on Neurotransmitter Release: http://books.nap.edu/books/030905088X/html/239.html
Third, Journal of Clinical Endocrinology and Metabolism: Short-Term Neuroendocrine Effects of a Large Oral Dose of Monosodium Glutamate in Fasting Male Subjects: http://jcem.endojournals.org/cgi/reprint/81/1/184.pdf
Note: They’re using a large oral dose of monosodium L-glutamate (MSG; 12.7 g) for the test. Below is their conclusion.
Now if you ask me personally, do I think msg is harmless? Of course not. There are people with msg allergy and sensitivity. But I’d personally wouldn’t brand them as a toxin right of the bat either.
I wouldn’t want to eat them in a large dose either though.

I am so disappointed that this product has MSG in it I just heard about it on XM Rosie Radio called and got the speal and it sounded like just what I am looking for I have Hormonal Headaches that is the biggest reason I called they said it would help and never said anything about MSG that is not a natural substance is It???? Now I am afaid it wont help but make my headaches worse, I just turned 50 have had 1 hot flash did have insomnia but found out I had Hypothyroid so I take Amour for that and now sleep great again but I have the mid section weight gain, mood swings, exhausted all of the time, and those horable headaches. I hope they find a better ingredient to use, what a shame
April 7th, 2010 at 1:49 am
So sorry to hear that Staci,
All I can say is, I found Amberen to be helpful even with MSG. It's far from perfect, but it helps alot. If you have any doubts at all, you should consult your physician beforehand. They can ease you up slowly on the dosage and stuff.
April 7th, 2010 at 2:46 pm
Is there any other US product(s) besides Amberin that others have found to work? I sleep with a wet washcloth next to my pillow to wipe myself down and cool myself off – these hotflashes are the pits and my mom who is 23 years older than I am is still getting them!

I had a total hysterectomy almost 7 years ago at the age of 52. I was on premarin for 5 years until my doctor said that was too long. I switched to an estring for awhile and it didn't help much w/my symptoms. For the last 5 weeks or so I had been beyond miserable. No quality of life. Hot flashes, night sweats, insomnia. depression and severe anxiety. It got so bad I didn't care to leave my house. I heard about amberen and decided to try it as I really couldn't take anymore of this "life"! I had it overnighted and received it last Thursday and took the one dose. It is hard to believe, but it started working the same day. Since last Thursday I have not had one hotflash or nightsweat. My energy level is through the roof and I am far from depressed or anxious. I feel wonderful and even went on a two day trip out of town the weekend and am leaving for a five day trip to Scottsdale next week. All I can say is Try it!!!
April 7th, 2010 at 10:24 pm
I had a full hysterctomy about 6 years ago due to the "worst case" of endometriosis my 3 doctors had ever seen. I'm told I can't take hormones because it will cause the endometriosis to grow back. I've been taking Welbutrin (an anti-depressant) at the lowest dose which controls the night sweats and hot flashes (if your desperate to get rid of those symptoms, I can't recomend Welbutrin enough!) but it does nothing for the weight gain. Since having my hysterectomy, I've also come down with Tinnitis which is enhanced when I eat too much sodium so I'm a little hesitant to try Amberen since it has MSG. Any wise words are welcome!
April 7th, 2010 at 11:52 pm
I know that you are suppose to take Ameren for 3 months and then rest for 3 months and continue to altinate 3 months on and 3 months off. Do you take it for the rest of your life like this? If so wouldn't there be long term side effects?
April 8th, 2010 at 2:44 am
Hi Teresa, Leslie, Judy and Sharon. Welcome aboard!
Teresa,
as far as I know, there's no menopause relief that have that instant-effect like Amberen for know. There's stuff like menozac, but it didn't work that well. Yeah, you said it. Hot flashes and night sweats are the perfect combination to ruin a life. Many lives, in fact…
Leslie,
That's great to hear! I'm really happy that you've tasted the good effects of Amberen. Hope it's going to stay that way for years to come!
Judy,
I can tell you that amberen is not a form of hormone treatment. It's rather a stimulant for our body to produce it's own natural hormone, unlike HRT. Now, I strongly suggest you consult your physician before trying. Perhaps concoct a dose that you can try without side effects. Take advantage of amberen's free trial offer to test things out.
Sharon,
There's no long term side effects. But, there's good side effects. It's like this. Amberen's goal is to make our hormone levels back or close to normal, alleviating the symptoms that come with menopause or perimenopause.
Regarding the duration, amberen is similar to antibiotics. You need to take it every day at the same time until the symptoms are all gone. Your 3 months of taking amberen can make your body feel normal for the next 3-6 months. Do you have to repeat it for the rest of your life? Most likely. But, there's a chance that our body retain the effect for a longer duration as we take amberen. So you could only take amberen for say, the first 3 months of a year and be free all that year, and repeat it next year. Something like that.

Mari Kai,
It is just always my hope, and I do this for myself, that people make efforts to do their own due diligence and learn all sides, use discernment, and then make an informed decision from there.
I hope I am not creating too much of a stir here, but I don't think this really is off-topic since I feel this topic is the "bad" side to this product and if I am not mistaken this page is a discussion of the good and the bad – my apologies if I am wrong about that.
I merely want to be sure people are fully informed before they choose to ingest MSG. I am all for natural health products but I have also spent a great deal of time researching MSG and it's harmful effects. While that study you posted showed no ill-effects on those men, that is one small study and certainly does not represent the masses in comparison to the thousands of studies that have taken place that have shown otherwise. For example, and this is just one article – there are many others out there that have data to back up what the articles state:
This excerpted from http://www.healthtruthrevealed.com/articles/093141101/article
For thirty years, scientists and researchers have used MSG in their experiments to purposely create obese and pre-diabetic test subjects, trigger epileptic seizures, create ischemic stroles, and destroy cell tissues in vivo and in vitro. The amount of studies that use MSG to cause negative effects in test subjects numbers over one thousand, published in a variety of medical and scientific journals in over a dozen different countries.
With most controversial topics such as this one, there are always two sides – but in the research I have done, the information and studies that show negative effects of ingesting MSG are overwhelming enough to not avoid to take notice from my perspective.
To be fair, from the testimonials I've seen on this product, it is showing to help many people and any relief from menopausal symptoms is always a good thing
April 9th, 2010 at 4:38 am
Hi Mellie,
Don’t say that, I really appreciate your opinions. And yes, MSG is one question that I got a lot of.
So here’s the facts:
Now, what does it tell us? Yes. Ingesting MSG in a high dosage is harmful to your body. I wouldn’t imagine a normal person, let’s say about 80 kgs, have a treshold of around 1280mg of MSG per day. More than that is unimaginable. Actually, that much per day is also unimaginable, atleast for me. That’ll be like a couple days worth of chinese food.
Of course, this doesn’t apply with people with MSG sensitivity. That, I know.
Now, with all the MSG talk aside. Two capsule of Amberen have 400 mg of ingredients. MSG is a really small part of it. I don’t think it’s even 10 percent of that. So that’s why I feel that it’s Amberen is safe. Is it perfect? Of course not! Granted, they should use a better substance. But do we know the circumstances behind the usage? Perhaps it’s the most effective one, or the most economical one, we don’t know.
But yes, you’re right. It’s a discussion about the bad side of the drug. I’m glad that we make this subject clearer.
April 14th, 2010 at 3:27 pm
What about smoking on this?
April 14th, 2010 at 5:18 pm
Hi Mary,
I don’t quite get the question. Are you asking if taking amberen while smoking will negate it’s effect? If that’s the question, I think not.
But generally speaking, smoking is bad for your health. So yes, if you can quit smoking it’ll help in the long run.
April 17th, 2010 at 2:05 pm
i just finished my three month trial and I did feel some relief of night sweats. I just came on to order more and found out that I should be taking a three month break. Is that necessary? Should I not continue to take it for another three months? It is harmful? I just assumed that I would continue – not wanting to go backwards. Should I wait or can I continue for a few more months?
April 17th, 2010 at 4:57 pm
Hi Mauareen,
That’s a unique name you have there.
I know a couple of Maureens, but no Mauareen.
So it’s like this. The regimen of Amberen (2 capsules each day for 90 days) is supposedly to make the symptoms go away. The next 2-3 months is your months of freedom from the symptoms without taking anything at all. If the symptoms return, repeat the 3 month Amberen regimen.
It’s not harmful, it’s just that if you can go through those months without spending a dime, why should you?
My recommendation is to wait a week or so. If you feel that you still have relief from night sweats, feel free to live your life Amberen free… (hopefully it’s going to last). If in a couple of months the symptoms come back, start taking Amberen again. This will be repeated until your body’s hormone level is stable, then you can live the rest of your life Amberen free. Atleast that’s the really good outcome that we hope.
Realistically speaking, you probably have to take Amberen every now and then to make symptoms dissapear. But the time needed for another regimen will lengthen as time goes by.
April 20th, 2010 at 6:20 pm
Within a week I was really releived of a lot of my symptoms, night sweats, hot flashed and mood swings. The only side effect for me was diaherra. I am hoping this subsides with time.
April 20th, 2010 at 6:38 pm
I felt great relief of many of my periomenipause systems (night sweats, mood swings, hot flashes and missing periods) almost immediately (within one week) of taking Amberen. I started getting these at the early age of 37. Now at age 40, I am thrilled to be getting some relief. My only complaint is the side effect of diaherra. I am hoping this subsides soon so that I may finish my first regiment.
April 20th, 2010 at 7:06 pm
I have been reading all of your comments on Amberen and this is exactly what I have been researching for. I am currently taking Prometrium and the Vivelle patch and the side effects are more severe than the hot flashes. Is there anyone else taking Prometrium and the Vivelle patch and what are your thoughts on it.
I have tried natural hormone compound lotions and it did not work.
So I am looking for something else, because I want to sleep and not gain weight.
April 22nd, 2010 at 8:40 pm
I have been taking Amberen for two months now and did get relief from hot flashes, though mine were never really severe. Something happened today that hasn't happened for a year and a half….I got my period. Please tell me this in normal.
April 23rd, 2010 at 2:42 am
Hi Rose,
This is what I know. In cases of premature menopause, Amberen can reverse premature menopause. The benefits that you feel included restored regularity of menstrual cycles and the return of normal thickness of the endometrium. This is probably the case.
April 23rd, 2010 at 2:49 am
I have not had any periods since I was 50 and am now 57. But I do still have hot flashes and some night sweats, I gained 35 pounds in 20 days and have never been able to lose it will Amberen still work for me? Amberen sounds great but is so expensive. Is it only available on line or are there other sources? If this product is this great why isn't it covered under medical insurance?
April 23rd, 2010 at 3:05 am
Hi Sandra,
The quick answer for that question is yes, it can help you.
The quick weight gain is caused by the hormonal imbalance. If it’s balanced, most probably you’ll shed those pounds in time.
I agree with you, it’s expensive. And it’s only available online. Regarding why Amberen is not covered by insurance, this is my opinion:
Some insurance also doesn’t cover the cost for HRT. But if there are any insurance people reading this, please, please put Amberen in. You’ll get a lot of customers that way.
April 23rd, 2010 at 11:27 am
Hello,
I am wondering if you know how this product compares to the natural bioidentical hormones? I have been taking them for 6 months and they work well. Have you done any comparison between the two? Thank you, Donna
April 24th, 2010 at 1:54 pm
I am a breast cancer survivor (with positive estrogen receptors) – and as such was told I am not a candidate for any type of hormone therapy to help with symptoms. Is Amberen okay for me?
April 24th, 2010 at 4:07 pm
Hi Donna and Patti,
I'm no medical expert, but I'll try to address your concerns.
to Donna:
Bioidenticals have different treatment approach with Amberen. But basically the aim is the same. The difference being, Amberen doesn't contain estrogen. Rather it stimulates your body to produce hormone (like they used to before menopause). So it's basically a stimulant for your body to fix itself. That's why the risks of HRT or BHRT doesn't apply to Amberen.
to Patti:
Now, as with above. Amberen is different from HRT, so it might work for you. I stressed out the might part because I'm no specialist, and this is purely my opinion. So I suggest is, take as much data that you can on how amberen treatment work and go see your physician. Now, with that data, he should be able to tell you whether this can be done or not.
All the best for you guys. Hang in there.
April 24th, 2010 at 11:52 pm
I am 44 and had a co plete hysto Overies removed as well in Dec 2009. I am currently on Estradiol I am affraid of this because the side effects scare me. I am over 35 breast cancer runs heavy in the family, My dad died of heart disease at the age of 44 and I am a smoker. I want off the HRT but my dr. says its okay it win't hurt me that the reports are inflated. since the HRt I have had to go on blood pressure meds as well as gained 30 lbs since surgery. What can I do?
April 25th, 2010 at 3:29 pm
Hi Ruth,
So you’ve undergone a complete hysterectomy. With ovaries completely removed, your body loses a major part of your Hypothalamic – Pituitary – Ovarian axis. This causes premenopause. However, you still have organs that produce hormones. The weight gain could come from the hormone imbalance. So Amberen can help. Feel free to try.
On the smoking part, I suggest stopping just for the numerous health reasons. It's not easy, but you can do it!
April 26th, 2010 at 4:54 pm
I just started taking Amberen four days ago. I am not feeling any relief from hot flashes. I do have more energy! Also, will the Amberen help with the 30 pounds I have gained due to menopause?
April 26th, 2010 at 9:02 pm
I just started taking Amberen two days ago. Will it help with my weight gain and high blood pressure? I am having 10-12 hot flashes a day, can't sleep at night, no energy. I am going to the gym to help with the weight gain and to try to lower my blood pressure.
April 27th, 2010 at 2:49 am
Hi Ella and Wanda,
Ella:
It's nice that you've experience some results from Amberen. Regarding the persistent hotflashes, there's a chance that your body is adjusting to the treatment. I say, give it more time first. If you still get no relief, sometimes you have to up the dosage to get the effect you wanted. But be wary about the cost.
Wanda:
If your weight gain is caused by your hormone balance going out of whack, Amberen can help you. I don't know about the high blood pressure though. But as others have experienced, it helps with the hot flashes and lack of energy for sure.
Getting routine exercise is a wonderful idea! Let me know about the development of your high blood pressure after treatment with Amberen, 'kay?
All the best for you guys.
April 27th, 2010 at 1:51 pm
I am 26 and am premenopausal. I take bio-identical progesterone and estrogen but am worried about the cancer risks. I am hypothyroid and take a compound formulated by my pharmacist. I am also taking 11 herbal pills a day to help with the symptoms. On top of all this, I take Prozac for depression….pretty depressing just to read how many pills I take and still don’t get relief! Anyway, will Amberen also help with libido and memory fog/loss? If I do take Amberen, do I stop taking everything (except my thyroid meds of course)? I’ve been fighting this for many years now (hard to believe since I am so young) and haven’t had any success…I am hesitant to spend more money on something that won’t work….
April 27th, 2010 at 3:26 pm
Hey AJ,
That's really many hard things to handle at the same time. I can't even imagine what it must be like for you. Hang in there! We're rooting for you!
For your questions:
Yes, Amberen have been reported to help with libido and concentration loss (well, it's not really the same, but it stems from the same problem), so you might want to try it. As for medications to be stopped, I'm not quite sure whether you should stop it completely or not. But here's a suggestion (I should remind you that I'm no medical professional, this is purely my opinion.), try Amberen for free (they have this great free trial offer) and try taking it for a couple days first without the excess medications (except the must have ones, like the thyroid meds). If Amberen get you some results, you can continue the treatment.
The decision is yours AJ. If you have any doubts, I strongly suggest consulting with your physician.
I sincerely hope that Amberen can help you.
April 27th, 2010 at 7:36 pm
I've been reading that you should not take Amberen if you have extreme hypertension. What exactly does that mean? I developed high blood pressure two years ago at age 53. I am on meds which keep it in the normal range now.
Is it safe for me to try Amberen? Will all the salts in it raise blood pressure?
April 28th, 2010 at 12:44 am
Hi, was considering bioidentical hormones till a friend heard about Amberen. Does it only work for traditional menopausal symptoms? I'm 53, stopped my periods 4 mos ago, tho I had a short one again recently. But never had hot flashes or night sweats. In fact, I'm always cold. Have suspected hypothyroidism for decades (both sisters & both grandmothers had/have it) but it doesn't show up in standard blood test. For yrs I've had facial hair growth, progressive weight gain (esp in middle) no matter what I do, extreme fatigue, waking up all night, extreme brain fog, all getting worse now w/perimenopause (?). Also take mild water pill for high blood pressure. If my problem is messed up hormones from PART menopausal, part hypothyroid, maybe even adrenal exhaustion too, can this product help me? And will it interfere w/high blood pressure?
April 28th, 2010 at 3:53 am
Hi Sheila and Katie,
to Sheila:
As far as I know, Amberen is not recommended for people with thyroid goiter and extreme forms of uncontrolled arterial hypertension unless they consulted their physician beforehand. If this is your type of hypertension, you should, no, must consult your physician before trying Amberen. I don't really know exactly which part of Amberen that causes that. I'll try asking them.
to Katie:
That's quite a formidable combination of conditions you have there. Well, I heard of a couple of people diagnosed with hypothyroidism that's taking Amberen that have good reviews. But this is (in my personal opinion) what you should do if you want to try Amberen:
Start slow. Take two capsules a day first. Check your body condition daily. Pay attention to your mood, sleep cycle, overall emotional state and daily levels of energy. If the result is positive, continue the treatment. Of course, the result is not going to be instant, but you should get some feedback from your body daily.
Hope this helps for you both!
April 28th, 2010 at 5:58 pm
I've been taking Amberen for 1 week now,. I have noticed a decrease in the number of hot flashes and night sweats, however I was very nauseated on day 2 and 3. I stopped for two days then resumed. I became nauseated again. I feel like I did when I started the "patch" several years ago. What do you recommend?
April 29th, 2010 at 1:04 am
I have just ordered this product and I PRAY for relief! I had a total hysterectomy 7 yrs ago and diagnosed with M.S. 5 yrs ago. I am now 45 yrs old. The hormonal issues are worse than the M.S. I can't wait to try it. I have been taking the highest dosage of Premarin and the headache side effects are terrible! The night sweats (and day sweats for that matter) are awful and embarrassing. I am getting married to a loving patient man and moving to Florida from NYC and need some relief. I need to stay cool for my M.S. I have weight gain, headaches, depression, insomnia and low energy levels. I need HELP!!! I'll keep you posted. I found this by accident but God doesn't make mistakes.

Hi Lori and Marquita,
to Lori:
Well, we know that the result is in reach. So I recommend (this is my personal opinion) that you try to lessen the dosage for a couple of days. See if it still gives the desired result but no nausea. Gradually, your body will adjust to the treatment and hopefully eliminate the nausea completely.
to Marquita:
I sincerely hope that Amberen gives you the relief that you earned! Hang in there, and keep us posted with your progress.

Here's my story. I began having SEVERE, sleep disturbing night sweats on a fairly regular basis when I was 42. (I am now 49). I tried every NATURAL product under the sun. Was getting suicidal, and close to requesting HRT—which I really don't believe in!!!
I started taking Amberen in February of 2009. Very few side effects, and almost TOTAL relief from all symptoms. I did the regular dosage, and 3 months on / 3 off. It ceased being effective AT ALL in January of this year. I doubled the dosage, ran out of product, and suddenly—in mid March, most symptoms just disappeared. HALLELUJAH! If my symptoms return, I will order more product.
RE: MSG—I am EXTREMELY chemical sensitive. I get headaces from cleaning products, nail polish and remover, sodium benzoate, msg, etc etc…..The amount of MSG in Amberen did not seem to effect me.
I recommend AMBEREN to anyone suffering from hormone related issues. Too bad MANY mainstream doctors refuse to endorse it!!!
April 30th, 2010 at 6:31 pm
i'm in 2nd week of amberen. minimal relief from night sweats, but i will keep the faith & give it another week & a half. i am, however, full of acne all over my forehead. weird-haven't had acne for 15-20 years. what's up with this. normal? will it go away or continue as if i have to continue with amberen? i am REALLY hoping i will only need it for the three months (we'll see). am kinda-no, ALOT-discouraged at the thought of 'maybe' having to do this long-termed. fingers are crossed
April 30th, 2010 at 8:03 pm
I would recommend this to any women needing menapausal help. It has truely made a difference, my question is I consider myself to have had the severe stagges of menapause. Extreme hot flashes so often I was getting sick, night sweats, severe mood swings, weight gain the whole nine yards. My family wanted to boot me out, the single dose did not work for me I u take the double dose, when I stop taking this product my symptoms return within days. Is there a problem with prolonged usage? Cost is a factor but quality of life is more important.
May 1st, 2010 at 8:06 am
Hi Nikita and Tommie,
to Nikita:
I think you experienced the side effect of getting your hormones up again. In my personal opinion this is the phase when your body is adjusting to the treatment so the acne should last until your body is used to the treatment.
to Tommie:
There’s no problem with prolonged usage. The 3 months cycle is designed with economical reasons (and treatment reasons) in mind rather than the treatment’s side effect. But it’s different with each women. The point of resting every now and then is to push your body to produce hormone normally. Just that. But when symptoms return, it’s okay to take Amberen. I agree with you, quality of life is important. Hot flashes attack every hour or so is no way to live.

This product sounds wonderful. I am approximately 6 years into Menopause and have not had my period for a year. My doctor mentioned that after a year with no periods all of my symptoms should begin to go away. So far, I have only noticed a "slight" increase in energy. He also mentioned that if I start any kind of treatment it will just "mask" / "delay" the inevetable. Meaning that once I stop the treatment I will be starting at the begining of the process all over again. This is very confusing to me. I have very severe Hot Flashes, Night Sweats, etc. (every bad thing that Monopause has to offer! I guess i'm just blessed that way). Is this true? And if I begin taking Amberen will I start my period again? If, so is this just begining the process again?
Please UN-Confuse me!
May 2nd, 2010 at 3:51 pm
I started transitioning from bioidentical hrt to Ameberen about 2 1/2 wks ago. It seemed to be going ok until a few days ago when I started having horrible headaches. I see that headaches seem to be a possible side effect. Any suggestions? I really want to get off the hrt and thought this would be my answer. I just don't know if I can live with these headaches!
May 3rd, 2010 at 2:39 am
Hi Maria and Mary Anne,
to Maria:
Yes, you’re somewhat blessed to get everything that anything can offer. Unfortunately, it’s menopause we’re talking about. I can’t give a professional medical opinion, just a personal opinion. Using Amberen, in my opinion, doesn’t restart the process. Our period will stop, but without the hormonal imbalance that it usually brings with it. All the symptoms are caused by that. So Amberen treat the hormonal imbalance thus eliminating the symptoms. The effect of Amberen making someone got their period again only applies to peri-menopausal women. So they enter menopause before their time.
to Mary Anne:
Headaches are a known side effects associated with Amberen treatment. Not too many experience it, but I guess you’re one of the few who got them. I hate that someone have to suffer because of Amberen’s imperfection. So this is what I think you should do. Adjust your dosage, lower it to a point where you have the benefits and no headaches. Give it some time and gradually increase the dosage to a normal level. Usually this works, but it takes time. The point here is to get your body to get used to the treatment first. I hope this will works for you.
Hang in there you two! We can beat menopause!
May 3rd, 2010 at 5:57 pm
I have only taken Amberen for one week. I am 52 and have been suffeing from premenopausal symptoms for about ten years. I have not had a period for two months now, and have never had that happen before. I am hoping I am finally entering menopause. I was having 7 or 8 night sweats per night, horrible mood swings , and emptional eating. I cannot believe the change already. I have not has a single night sweat episode for two nights. I feel more calm, and not so out of control with my emotions. I tried HRT, and got scared of the side effects, so I quit. This is working much better for me. I forgot I actually am a nice person !!! I hope this continues.
May 3rd, 2010 at 6:01 pm
By the way, No Headaches for me so far!
May 4th, 2010 at 3:32 am
Hi Carlen,
Wow, that’s really great! It’s a happy day.
Don’t worry, we’re all nice people, menopause makes us bitter and mean.
May 5th, 2010 at 5:54 pm
I am 51 y/o and have not had a period for the past 4 -5months. My Gyne. states my hormones are in the post-menopausal level and states he does not expect any more periods for me.
The past 2 months my hot flashes and night sweats have increased to almost every 10-30 minutes (easily at least 20/day). It is hard to wear anything top-wise at home, for I end up taking it off to wipe myself down with a towel. I get so chilled after to a point this cycle is making me very weak and tired, almost like having a fever on and off all day.
I suffer with chronic pain, an autoimmune thyroid disorder (Hashimoto's) and many other things from severe trauma in my past. I am on many pain meds, thyroid hormone, psych. meds, etc.
I am wonderfing if this would be safe for me to try for the first 30 days or should I call my gyne?
He did NOT want 2 put me on synthetic HRT due to all the meds. I am on.
Thank you!
May 5th, 2010 at 6:04 pm
Hi Jan,
I do think that Amberen would be safe for you to try. It’s all-natural and although it has the same effects as HRT, it works differently. But this is my personal opinion. The decision is yours.
May 6th, 2010 at 4:51 am
My understanding about female hormones is that the older you are the less you have. What exactly does Amberen do for you when you are in your eighties? Is it balancing less and less of your own hormones? Will you then succumb, anyway to the various unpleasant symptoms of the menopausal life?
May 6th, 2010 at 5:03 am
Hi Sandy,
Excellent question. Why do you have less hormone when your older? This sequence will explains:
1. The aging hypothalamus (hormone master gland) loses sensitivity to signals from tissues and organs.
2. Communication between hypothalamus and hormone-producing system is disrupted. Neuroendocrine function declines.
3. The body loses hormonal balance and menopausal symptoms set in.
This is what happen. So you see, it’s not because our body cannot produce hormones, on the contrary, the production is halted because there’s a disruption between the hypothalamus and the hormone producing system.
This is where Amberen comes along. Amberen revitalizes the sensitivity of hypothalamus to signals from tissues and organs thus make our body produce hormone thus eliminating menopause symptoms.
May 8th, 2010 at 8:03 pm
I started perimenopausal symptoms when I was 58 years old and had my last period at 60 years old. My gyne said i broke the record for lastest menopause in his practice. I have been on Amberen for 3 weeks now due to fatigue, headaches, mood swings and muscle/joint soreness. Thankfully Amberen has been a blessing and almost all symptoms are gone. I am back to exercising and more importantly smiling again
May 10th, 2010 at 1:10 am
I am 43 and struggle with peri symptoms for 5 years. No flashes, but lots of fatigue, depression, anxiety. I have read a lot about Amberen helping with hot flashes, but what about the mood issues of anxiety/depression?
May 10th, 2010 at 2:26 am
Hi Karlene,
That’s a very good question. The short answer is, yes, Amberen also helps with that.
Let me explain it for a bit, there’s many symptoms associated with menopause caused by our imbalance hormone bodies, such as:
Hot flashes, mood swings and irritability, low energy, weight gain, loss of libido, night sweats, difficulty concentrating, irregular periods, sleeplessness, bone loss, etc.
All of these although have a wide range are caused by the same thing. That’s why Amberen can help with all the symptoms because it addresses the core problem of all these symptoms.
I hope the answer helps and you can found the relief that you’re looking for.
May 14th, 2010 at 2:33 pm
I have been on Amberen for two days. My last period was November 2009 and I just turned 56. I have had hot flashes and night sweats since January. My gyn wanted me on HRT but heart disease is rampant in my family, I, fortunately, have very good blood pressure readings, am a swimmer, no weight issues. I have noticed that I have a burning nausea and some swelling in my fingers that I didn't have before. I suffer from migraines and take Topamax daily (only 50mg) and have Amerge for my headaches as needed. So far, I haven't experienced headaches, but the nausea is bothersome. I also haven't had any reduction in the hot flashes during the day.
May 14th, 2010 at 4:48 pm
I have been suffering and putting up with perimenopause for so many years now. I am currently going thru a divorce and I can't take it any longer. I have read and read the reviews on Amberen and I want to try it. However, I can't afford this treatment. I have excellent health insurance though. Is it possible to get my insurance company to cover the cost of this medicine?
May 16th, 2010 at 1:33 am
Oh!!!! I was really excited about this product and held my breath when I came to the part that said who should not take it. I have high blood pressure. I was hoping this would help me loose this extra weight and help me bring down my blood pressure. Talking to my doctor will not help because they rely on conventional remedies! I want to take Amberen anyway!!!!
May 16th, 2010 at 2:19 am
Hi Rebecca, Jstephens and Tami
Sorry it took me a while to reply to your comments, apparently I got sidetracked by this wonderful thing called farmville in facebook. Add me as your friend if you play it btw. I want more neighbors!
to Rebecca: Perhaps it’d be better to lessen the dosage first to reduce the nausea effect. And give Amberen more time, 2 days doesn’t do it justice.
to Jstephens: Unfortunately to this day I haven’t heard about any insurance companies that covers Amberen since it’s categorized as a supplement. But I strongly suggest asking the company. Why? With many questions about Amberen hopefully the company picked it up as one of the things that they cover. In the mean time, why not try it’s free trial first? It’s non-recurring, means you don’t have to worry about unexpected credit card bill, it’s just a one month thing.
to Tami: It’s good that you have the spirit to fight menopause! But, I have to remind you, if you have extreme forms of uncontrolled arterial hypertension – not just any regular high blood pressure, you have to adjust your dosage of amberen treatment meticulously. If you just have normal hypertension there should be no problem with Amberen.
All the best for you guys! Hope you’ll feel the effect that I’ve felt now.
May 16th, 2010 at 3:31 am
Hi,
I had a total hysterectomy about a year ago and am too going though a surgical menopause with the hot flashes (10 a day at a minimum) and the insomnia. I take Cymbalta and Sonata for sleep and depression. I just ordered the free trial of Amberen. I hope that this works because I have endometriosis and am scared of taking Estrogen. I was even considering take bio-identical hormone implants but cannot afford it. I also wanted to tell you that I requested you to be my neighbor on Farmville. I need more neighbors too. Just to familiarize you with who I am.
May 16th, 2010 at 3:50 pm
Thank you, Mari Kai!!! I think I have just the 'garden variety' hypertension…..never really heard of arterial high blood pressure. I will have to check. I was hoping that if I lose some weight that my blood pressure will lower! I am on meds but it is still to high.
Thank you, again!!!! I guess I can try! I seriously did cry when I found out that I couldn't try Amberen. I need hope…that is all.
May 16th, 2010 at 9:37 pm
I am in the early stages of perimenopause. My cycles were getting very irregular and for the two weeks before my cycle I had the feeling that I would start my period every day. I was a bear during that time. I did some searching and started to take some high concentrate supplements (Premens and PMS Soothe) which have both worked great and regulated my periods AND symptoms for those problems.
Now I have started to have hot flashes/night sweats and was wondering if I could use the Amberen along with my other supplements or would the Amberen take care of all of these symptoms together.
May 17th, 2010 at 3:48 am
Hi,
I had a complete hysterectomy it will be two years july. I stopped taking premerine after I found out that it was made out of horse urin however it did stop my hot flashes. stopped taking estrogin patches. for fear of developing breast cancer. I have sever dryness and vaginal burning. My cervex was removed and it hurts very much to have sex. I have no sex life. I am only 45 and my husband is wondering if his sex life is over. I have no energy. Hot flashes are not bad. I started taking Amberen 13 days ago and was getting relief from the vaginal burning but still very dry. Last night I woke up with hot flashes worse than I ever have had them and am experiencing numbness and tingling in my left arm.
I have been reading about how msg could effect the numbness and tingling. I am afraid to increase theAmberen dosage. Do you have any help to offer my delemma?
May 17th, 2010 at 4:02 am
Hi Tami, Denise and Patty,
to Tami:
I’m happy I could be of some help to you. I sincerely hope that Amberen produces the effects that you want. Hang in there!
to Denise:
You’re right, Amberen can take care all the symptoms together. But it’s also okay if you want to combine them with what you have now that already produce results. What I recommend is, trying Amberen solo for a week, if it works, it’s good! If it’s not as good as you wanted, combine it. Take the free trial to experiment around.
to Patty:
Numbness and tingling is also one of the symptoms of menopause. It usually came with the severest of hotflashes, so it’s not the MSG, don’t worry. Just maintain your dosage first. If there’s indication for a week or two that it doesn’t work that well, try doubling the dosage for a couple of days. This is, of course, my personal non-physician recommendation. The decision is solely yours.
I hope the best for you guys. Let’s fight menopause together!
May 17th, 2010 at 7:25 pm
I have been on Amberen for one week. I am in pre-menopause state and never had hot flashes during the day but night sweat – a few a night. Now, though, my night sweats have increased and I am experiencing hot flashes during the day. Did I start too soon? Should I have waited to see if my symptoms got any worse. I was trying to be proactive. I don't understand why after taking Amberen my symptons got worse? Wondering if I should stick with it. (I get a little nauseous and head achey as well. Please asvise. thanks.
May 18th, 2010 at 12:28 am
I've been going through peri/menopause for two yrs. I've finally been period-free for 5 months (knock on wood.) My periods have always been extremely heavy, requiring tampons and pads and setting the alarm every 3 hrs at night.
Will Amberen cause my periods to start again? I have severe hot flashes and night sweats and want relief from them, but I do NOT want my periods starting again.
May 18th, 2010 at 5:32 pm
Hi Pearl and Jackie,
Sorry for the late replies, I have to take care a couple of stuffs first.
to Pearl:
I can’t offer a concrete explanation because I’m not a physician, but I have some ideas. Considering your situation, I recommend you isolate whether amberen is the culprit behind it or not. Try lessening (or if you’re up for it, take none) your Amberen dosage. If the nightsweats persists, then it’s not caused by Amberen. Please keep me updated with your progress.
Logically speaking, Amberen is designed to combat those exact symptoms, so it’s kinda weird if it have the opposite result. I sincerely hope that everything will turn all right for you. Keep us informed.
to Jackie:
Amberen sometimes do restore your period if you’re perimenopausal. That means that you’ve entered menopause too soon, around 10-15 years from the average age of woman’s final period, which is 51. So If you’re below 40, you’re most likely perimenopausal, which means there’s a chance that Amberen will restore your period. If you’re not below 40, it’s most likely that taking Amberen will not restore your period. Hope this helps.
May 18th, 2010 at 6:02 pm
Thank you for responding. I will stick with it to see if it just needs a little getting used to. It could be just a coincidence that night sweats started to increase; maybe they were going to anyway. I am going to give it two more weeks (closer to the 30-days) and see. One question, though, how does it know what "normal" harmonal balance is for each person?
May 18th, 2010 at 6:28 pm
Hi again Pearl,
Well, if 'it' that you mean is Amberen, it doesn't know the normal hormonal balance of each person. Let me explain:
When you enter your menopause or perimenopause stage, Communication between hypothalamus (let's say it's the head office) and hormone-producing system (let's say it's the factory) is disrupted. Their phone line was cut. The factory might want to produce or not produce hormone at all, there's lack of communication between the head office and the factory.
Amberen restores the phone line. So they can communicate again, hence start producing the correct amount of what our body thinks the balance hormone levels. Amberen is just the catalyst for a better communication between them.
I hope it's clear. I tend to wander around when explaining things.
May 18th, 2010 at 6:57 pm
Not at all; that was very clear – great analogy. thanks.
May 19th, 2010 at 2:53 pm
I have been taking Aberen for 3 months and just recently stopped for my 3 month "rest". I am just turning 50 but have been period free for over a year so I am in full blown menopuase and I experience all they symptoms and misery that go with it. I got some immediate relief from taking Amberen, but it wasn't until after the first month when I really experienced major relief from the hotflashes, nightsweats, inability to sleep, major irritability, body aches, weight gain, fatique (did I forget any).. I was so greatful for Amberen I told everyone about it. However, I am going to order it now again and not wait for the 3 months because I am already feeling a difference. The hot flashes are beginning to return, the irritability is soooo noticeable and I feel so tired, but am having trouble sleeping. So back on it I go. I get no side effects from it. I love it – is is a miracle for me. It even helped my libido and it eliminated the vaginal pain and dryness during intercourse, which my husband is very happy about. So I am going back on it. I just hope they do not discover any long-term negative effects. Did anybody stay off of it successfully for 3 months and not experience a return of menopausal symptoms? I have only been off of it for 2 weeks and I am noticing a return of many of the symptoms of menopause.
Susan
May 19th, 2010 at 3:52 pm
Hi Susan,
That sounds wonderful! You’ve gotten your life back.
Unfortunately, amberen is not as perfect as we want to. I think the 3 months rest period is not valid from person to person and just a small percentage of people do reach that three months. But hey, can’t win them all. But I sincerely think that with prolonged usage, your body will adjust and doesn’t need amberen to fasilitate the ‘telephone line’ anymore.
May 20th, 2010 at 4:32 pm
I have high blood pressure and I have read in a disclaimer that you should not take Amberen if you have high blood pressure – is this true or not?
May 20th, 2010 at 4:48 pm
Hi Jill,
Yes, in cases of, and let me quote word by word, extreme forms of uncontrolled arterial hypertension, you should not take amberen.
If you just have your regular normal hypertension, amberen is all right. Of course this is my personal opinion. You should consult your physician if you have any doubts at all about amberen.
May 23rd, 2010 at 10:44 pm
I have an IUD in called Mirena. Can I still take Amberen? I'm worried about weight gain, loss of concentration and moodiness.
May 24th, 2010 at 9:05 pm
OMG!!!!!!!!!!!!! Amberen has been SUCH a relief for me, I can't even begin to tell you!!!!!!!! It's a TRUE GOD SEND for me! I was on Premarin and the other manufactured HRT's as well as bio-identical creams and this has worked the absolute best! It has TRULY given me my life and energy back! All I can say to help you decide is, what do you have to lose but your sanity and another nights worth of sleep…..the few bucks are WELL worth the money spent, even thought so far, it looks like I'll be taking it year around.
Good luck to you all and God Bless!
May 24th, 2010 at 11:21 pm
Hi, I've been taking Amberen for about 22 days now with somewhat positive results. I am sleeping a little better, moods aren't so intense, and possibly some improvement in libido, however my question is about hot flashes: I've gone from 0 about 22 days ago, to 2-3 over the past 21 days and on day 22 OFF THE CHART!! I'm not sure what to think of this. I am not taking HRT. Amberen is the only thing I am taking for menopause symptoms. I take it with vitamins and with Prilosec OTC. Please let me know what you think I should do or if anyone else is experiencing anything like this. So far I am pleased with Amberen, but just concerned about the hot flash increase today.
Thank you for your help!
May 25th, 2010 at 9:43 pm
Hi, I'm almost 50, haven't had a period for over a year. Have tried bHRT, but could never seem to get the balance right. Either not enough of something and lots of hot flashes, or too much of something and totally depressed/zero libido. Had also recently tried DHEA (10mg.), which helped for some of the month, but not all. Started Amberen in hopes of stopping everything else. Had already been off of bHRT for about a week, but was told should alternate Amberen with bHRT so as not to shock my body too much. After a few days, felt even more fatigued and depressed, so stopped the bHRT. A few more days on just Amberen and felt much less depressed but still not a lot of energy. So next day tried DHEA again along with Amberen and felt really good but began to have pre-menstrual type achiness. So, the next day tried just the Amberen and was way less energetic. Oh, and I was taking the double dose of Amberen as the first week on single dose didn't seem to do much. Was thinking of going back to single dose with the dhea, but would rather not be on dhea long term. Was told by my bHRT consultant a few years ago that I had adrenal issues. Am wondering if Amberen is helpful with that and does it really help with energy/depression? Does it take longer to help with these issues? Also, one more question — I have had hormonal imbalance issues all my life (since puberty anyway) – if you're hormones were never really balanced naturally, can Amberen really balance them?
Thanks

Hi Terri, Sandra, Jacque and Lisa,
I’m very sorry for the late replies. I just recuperated from a throat condition, and for the past few days I haven’t done much online. I think all my crops are withering at my farmville.
So on to replies:
to Terri:
Regarding your question, I really have no clue as what Amberen will do if you have an IUD. I can’t say it’s totally safe or not, but I recommend you asking either the support at Amberen, or you can ask your OB/Gyn. Sorry for the lack of knowledge. Please keep us updated after you consulted. It might help other people as well.
to Sandra:
I’m so happy that it works for you! I hope you can really live your live at the fullest!
to Jacque:
You’re probably experiencing what Pearl in the previous comment had. Now, I can only say what I said to Pearl the other day: I can’t offer a concrete explanation because I’m not a physician, but I have some ideas. Considering your situation, I recommend you isolate whether amberen is the culprit behind it or not. Try lessening (or if you’re up for it, take none) your Amberen dosage. If the nightsweats persists, then it’s not caused by Amberen. Please keep me updated with your progress.
Determining whether it’s Amberen, or is it the latter stage of your menopause will at least give us the idea as of the cause.
to Lisa:
Now this is just my speculation, so don’t think of it other than my personal opinion. If your body originally have imbalance hormone and there’s nothing wrong with the communication between hypothalamus and hormone-producing system, than Amberen can’t help since it’s function is just restoring the communication between them. Granted, you have to discuss this with your OB/Gyn to really determine if Amberen can help you or not. Or if you want to try, you can also contact Amberen support regarding your unique problem. Then, if it’s not much of a hassle for you, I’d really appreciate if you share the information with us here.
I hope for the best!

I have just ordered Amberen and I am eagerly awaiting delivery. I live in Trinidad and Tobago. Can Amberen help to improve menopausal skin ( sagging, little dark spots, oiliness, deepening wrinkles)? I was reading that estradiol, the 'youth hormone' in Amberen can actually help to improve the quality of skin.
May 26th, 2010 at 4:20 pm
Sorry my bad…I was in such a hurry I mistakenly wrote that Amberen has estradiol but that is not correct. Amberen treatment effectively increases estrogen(specifically estradiol) in women.
May 26th, 2010 at 7:57 pm
Hi, just back to report. I am haning in there because I though Amberen just needed to get some getting used to. I didn't want to just quit. I had very few symptoms before taking Amberen; just wanted to nip it in the bud since this was a natural therapy; however, I am experiencing a rediculous number of hot flashes during the day (which I never had) and so many night sweats I hardly sleep at all. I thought this would begin to subside soon once my body got used to taking Amberen. I think I may have to stop – I want to feel the way I felt BEFORE Amberen. By the way, I am now starting my third week (yesterday) so I need to make a decision fast before the trial period is over. I would appreciate if there are any comments such as mine. Thanks.
May 27th, 2010 at 4:03 am
Hi Mari Kai,
Thank you for the response. I got my Amberen 90 day refill within 2 days so I am taking it again and doing much better. I am still experiencing some hot flashes but I am starting to wonder if it may have somethng to do with some of the ingredients in my vitamins. For example, I know that Niacin can cause flushing. I am going to go for a week or two without supplements to see if the hot flashes decrease. also caffiene, sugar and chocolate (maybe the caffienein this) causes my hot flashes to become worse – with or without Amberen. I also take 150 mg a day of Wellbutrin and 25mg of Zoloft, but the Amberen worked great despite taking these drugs with it. I really do not mind taking it year round if it keeps working.
I was wondering if you knew whether or not there were any longitudinal studies being conducted so that the results are tracked. Also, is there any continued work being done on improving the formula? It would be great if continued effor to perfect it was taking place.
Thanks,
Susan
May 27th, 2010 at 4:16 am
Hi Pearl,
It sounds like you were doing much better before Amberen. It took me a little over a month to get relief and sometimes, even now, I take a double dose and this helps. I stopped taking it for my 3 month break, but went right back on it because the symptoms, especially the hotflashes and irritability got worse immediately. In your case, maybe it would be better to stop taking it and see if you exprerince improvement. I take Wellbutrin and it makes me a bit hyper, but I have talked to others who claim it made them extremely tired. Many drugs have totally different effects on people. I hope this feedback helps.

Hi,
At age 50 my periods stopped and I started on bio-identical progesterone cream and herbs and I have had great success. I gained about 30 Ibs but I have loss 25 Ibs in the last year, due to better diet and exercise, my main complaint right now is vaginal dryness and burning. I was diagnosed with atrophic vaginitis over a year ago and it seems to be getting worst. It's due to estrogen levels. I wonder if Amberen could help with this? It sound like a great product, all natural. I don't like the idea of MSG in the product. I had a reaction once in a Chinese Restaurant with MSG.

I also take 1 evening primrose a day and 1 fish oil capsule. My period has returned and I am not sure if that is a good thing or not at my age. Can you please let me know if having my monthlys again is detremental to my health. Thanks

Hi, I have been taking Amberen for one month and have noticibly good results..sleeping better, no night sweats (only one to three in daytime) much better mood, attitude, and energy level. I had a total hysterectomy at age 46 and went on the Vivelle patch until two yrs ago. Am now 63. When I went off the patch night sweats, day sweats, waking every one or two hours occurred, mild depression, loss of energy occurred. So Ambereen works for me. I have, however, gained a pound a week since taking Amberen, seems like everyone else who has posted has lost weight. I have not decreased activity or increased food intake. I keep an exercise and food journal. I thought I would stop Amberen to see if the weight would drop, but, all the bad sympton returned. Any one else experience weight gain. I would rather deal with the weight issue than all the other issues. Thanks for listening

I have been experiencing severe menopausal symptoms for the last 6 months. I found I could not live like this and saw my GP. I researched Amberen after being on HRT for 1 month, which caused me to gained 7 lbs. and found that the HRT meds just took the "edge" off. This was depressing to say the least! I ordered Amberen thinking it can't hurt. Well it took about 1 week of single dosage to aliviate all of my symptoms!! The weight was gone in about 2 weeks, I felt great!!! I was on the last 2 days of the first month when I began noticing the hot flashes returning with a vengence, 1 an hour last night!! I had increased my dosage to 2 of each 6 days ago. I am hoping with my entire being that this will "kick-in" soon!! Not having menny symptoms was heavenly!!! My question is can you go above 2 of each? Will an increase help if the double dose doesn't work? Or is it a waste of my money and Amberen isn't for me?
Your advice will be greatly appreciated!

I am returning Amberen today. I did not have severe symptoms piro to taking Ambern. I no daytime hot flashes but did have mild night sweats. I started Amberen because I wanted to be pro-active and did not want to gain a lot of weight. Since taking Amberen (I am almost finished one month) I have experienced severe hot flashes during the day and very frequent night sweats; I'm awake every half hour it seems. I've asked why would this happen. I hesitate to double dose. I so wanted it to be the answer. I am going to try nothing for a while then perhaps try something else. Who knows, I may go back to Amberen but first I have to understand why it can severely increase symptoms (except weight gain) for so many.

I guess no on answers this site anymore – anyone know of another site?
June 6th, 2010 at 2:25 pm
Hi all! Sorry I've been away for quite a while. Just took a well-needed R&R. I see there's a lot of comments, let me address what I can answer.
to Susan:
I know that there's a study published about them before. But I haven't seen more of them. Actually, you're right, we need to make sure that they develop the formula to be even better! I'll keep my eye out for any studies then. Thanks for the input!
to Deborah:
I really have no clue whether what will Amberen cause to your current condition. But if it's me, I'd try some just to see things out. Of course, if you have doubt, you can consult your OB first. I'm so sorry for the lack of satisfying answer. I hope this (obvious) opinion will help.
Regarding MSG, don't worry. The MSG content is really low. One chinese dish is equal to a large amount of Amberen treatment.
to Wendy:
That's quite serious. I don't think that you're suppose to have period in that age. I suggest consulting with your Gynecologist to find out more about it. Do you still have your periods, or is it just that once? If it just at first, it could be that your body is adjusting.
to Nancy:
That's an unique situation you're in. I hear about Amberen make people lose weight, but gaining them is new. Mm, it's not really clear whether Amberen is solely the cause or is it a combination of things or maybe a different thing altogether. But if it's me, I rather change my diet to a healthier, leaner one but menopause symptom free than the other way around. Let me know the result of your decision 'kay?
to Anita:
You can go above that, but if the recommended dosage already give you relief it's more economical to stay there. Bigger dosage doesn't necessarily mean bigger results, although with women that doesn't have result with normal dosage, it does. I'm glad you have free yourself from the dreadful symptoms of menopause.
to Pearl:
I agree, if you're sure that Amberen is the cause, return them. Your case is the first that I've heard of though. I don't have the answers because from all the menopause relief medication products (that supposed to work), Amberen is by far the best I know of. But this is my personal opinion.
Sorry for the late replies, I hope my answers can help and not too late.

I am wondering why Amberen helps with the numbness & tingling in my left arm? It's REALLY mind-boggling to me as to HOW & WHY it stopped after taking the Amberen. I still have Hot Flashes at night and am considering trying something else, but am glad the arm is better.
June 9th, 2010 at 12:01 pm
I've had terrible hot flashes for about 3 years now, every 45 minutes or so, 24/7. I've tried everything except the horse pee- never! Maca root worked for a while and then stopped. Night sweats, drenched sheets, terrible sleep. Amberen worked once I upped the dosage to twice a day. I am now experiencing my 3rd great nights sleep! I still get flashes but only about 6 a day. It has worked quickly once I adjusted the dose. I feel pretty good and I think this is a good product.
June 9th, 2010 at 12:26 pm
I have stopped using Amberen for about 4 days now. I hardly have any hot flashes during the day and very few night sweats; back to what it was like pre-Amberen. I do understand maybe the Ambern finally did start working and now my body is still working off that – not sure. I am going to stay off everything right now and see how I progress. If things do not get worse, then I can assume it was the Amberen which made my hot flashes and night sweats (and headaches) so bad. I would like to hear if there has been anyone else who thought that Amberen made them worse.
June 11th, 2010 at 2:21 am
Mary Kai,
I have started taking the Amberen for about 3 weeks now and have started getting intestinal cramps. Is this from the MSG? Should I continue taking it and wait till these side effects go away?

I am scanning web pages looking for advice on healthy ways to control menopause systems and before I try Amberen I have a concern. I am at the beginning stages of menopause with the night sweats, moodiness, lack of sex drive, etc. One of my main issues are headaches, light headedness and dizziness. Reading some of others people’s comments makes me wonder if my headaches will get worse. I basically have a headache 24/7 with the degree of the pain varying. Anyone have any advice for me?

Hello, I am 38 and had a full Hysterectomy about 2 years ago and prolly did not even need it done
However I am at my total wits end! I just ordered this product and I pray for the best! I have a 12 and 13 yr old daughters who would love there Mom back to normal. I have hot flashes constantly and I am currently on the Vivelle Dot Patch, however it does not always seem to work and I have 2 sisters that have had breast cancer but my Doctor didn't seem to think thats a big deal plus a Mom with Heart Disease so therfore after things I have heard I am taking control myself. I have cronic fatigue, depression, insomnia, SEVERE HOT FLASHES DAY AND NIGHT 24/7. I will update in a couple weeks after I get my Amberen and I will post my results. My question is: Is it normal to still have severe hotflashes while being on this patch plus I recently started Estoveen OTC Natural theropy. So shld of this worked? Plus what about the patches? Sometimes I wonder if it is Hotflashes or is there something wrong with me
( And yes I am on facebook also with a farm with prolly dead crops right now lol. You can add me if you want Tina Cole Ferguson

I am almost done with my 3rd month of Amberen. I'm PO'd, frustrated, angry and just DONE with the hot flashes. I get NO sleep at night. I AM DONE. Wish I had gone with my gut & sent it back after no relief the 1st month instead of 'just giving it a little more time'. Now look at me-out $ and in same place I started. The ONLY change is that my left arm no longer is numb & tingly. But hell, I'd rather just cut the damn thing off than have these hot flashes, night sweats NO SLEEP, etc, etc ,etc. I have a 5yr old and an 8 yr old to look after. I cant be all moody, irritable like this. HELP! any other ideas?

Hello,
I had a hysterectomy, two years ago, due to cervical cancer. I am 39, and no longer have ovaries to assit with estrogen production. I tried HRT, but it made me very ill.
Currently, I am a mess! I have hot flashes, night sweats, and recently
anxiety/panic attacks that leave me feeling tired and frustrated. I was
wondering if Amberen is for someone that has had a hysterectomy and no
longer has ovaries to assist with estrogen production? I also have a gluten
intolerance, so I would need to know, as well, if the product is gluten
free. Thank you for any assistance and information you can provide.

I have just ordered my first supply of Amberen. My sister has used it and raves about the results she has received. I am a post menopausal, 57 years old and use Estring for homonal replacement. My question is should I remove this device before starting the Amberen.
June 24th, 2010 at 8:03 pm
Ok, I'm gonna bite. I have researched and researched something for hot flashes. I have been on Premarin now for about 5 yrs and I'm done. I don't want to take it anymore but am scared to death of the debilitating hot flashes I was getting. I had a total hyster 5 yrs ago and am now 51 – what have I got to lose? It's guaranteed AND reasonably priced. As for the MSG, the dose is so minascule, I will feel better taking this than pregnant horse urine!! There is a trade in everything! I'll keep you posted on my progress! Wish me luck!!! Oh – I do have a ? How long after I taper myself off Premarin can I start taking Amberen?
June 24th, 2010 at 8:16 pm
Oh, one more – my libido is non-existent. I don't know if it's the Premarin I currently take or my age (51) but hope it's not my age! I'm still a spring chicken!! Anyway, does Amberen do anything for libido?
June 27th, 2010 at 4:11 am
I've been having a Terrible time with menopause. I started early, around 37, and haven't had a period in about a year and a half; I'm only 40. When I started experiencing pre-menopause symtoms, my OBGYN said I couldn't possibly be pre-menopausal and there had to be something else going on. When all this started, my whole life changed. I developed severe allergies (never was allergic to Anything before….now it seems I'm allergic to everything), tingling and numbness in my arm, hot flashes, foggy memory, unable to think clearly, dizziness, dryness, skin losing its luster, hair thinning and growing slower, constantly tired, moody, constantly worried all the time. I saw several doctors and nobody knew why I was experiencing the symptoms above – and I told every one of them about not having a period for x number of months – every one of them shrugged off my statement. After doing the research myself, I now know everything above came about due to menopause. I've been reading the comments and it's good to see the majority have favorable results; I'm contemplating trying the 30 day trial.
My question is what are the inactive ingredients? So you have a list? (allergies….need to be careful – I'm pretty much a regular taker of prednisone to keep my throat from closing and keep the swelling of my tongue down)
Has this product helped any others alleviate some of their menopause created allergies?
I just want my life back.
Thank you .
Catherine

Nobody seems to answer us anymore – what's up?
June 29th, 2010 at 3:15 am
Hi gals, it's been a while.
I'm back!
Ahh, there's a lot of comment, I'm going to address some of it (I hope it's not too late).
Katherine, I don't think the cramps are from MSG, most likely it's adjustment to the treatment.
Tina, I think my crops are all withered too by now. I left them for quite a while. But I'm gonna add you anyways. I hope you can get your life back!
Julie, that's really too fast! 20 years is far too fast for premenopause. I suggest checking with an OB/Gyn whether it's really premenopause or symptoms to another health condition.
Dena, It's gluten free. And yes, it claims to help even with women that had hysterectomy.
Gail, that's a good question. I think amberen treatment is not invasive, but to be sure, it's always a good thing to check with your doctor first. I'm glad your sister have great results!
Susi, actually you can start right away in my opinion. Premarin is basically estrogen, so it's treatment differs from Amberen. But yeah, it's actually PREgnant MARes' urINe. I'd take miniscule msg from that any day. It also helps with libido. Sorry for the late replies though. I hope this helps.
Catherine, that's really a bad situation to be in to. Regarding the list of ingredients for allergy check, I suggest you contact Amberen's customer support. I don't have the complete list, but I'm sure they do. Hope this helps.

Just waiting for a response to my post on June 22nd. Thanks, Nikita
June 30th, 2010 at 12:51 am
Hi Nikita,
I'm sorry that Amberen didn't work out for you. I understand that you may be frustrated and want to find alternative solutions. Unfortunately, for know, comparing HRT, prescribed drugs (nasty side effects), black cohosh derived products (e.g. menozac), and amberen, I personally still think that Amberen is the best out of the options above. So currently I can't help you more than recommending a standard "check with your ob/gyn" which I know is not really helpful.
June 30th, 2010 at 3:43 am
I don't have any of the symptms of menopause, except weight gain. Will this work for me? I'm 45 and have always been healthy – and thin. Two years ago I began gaining a little weight 5 lbs extra, but this year, I've been clobbered with 20 extra pounds!
June 30th, 2010 at 9:52 pm
Does Amberen cause one to be sick to their stomach? I started yesterday with the 2 a day program and this morning I woke up and had to hurry to the bathroom and I have a severe headache. Is it the Amberen or the flu? Later in the day I still have a headache, not as bad, and am able to keep food down. Thanks, Susi
July 1st, 2010 at 9:47 pm
Hello!
I read several of your posts and comments. I relate to several. No periods since 50, now 57, off and on HRT. Not on for several years, gained weight. Sadness. Lack of sex drive, dryness, etc. I want to try this but not sure. I don't want things to get worse instead of better. My doctor says menopause can last until 80's. Wow, don't want that! Do lack of hormones cause all of the above? Does product produce more hormones?
July 2nd, 2010 at 3:07 am
Hi guys,
to Angela:
I don't think that you need to take Amberen if weight gain is your only symptom. That can be caused by numerous things other than menopause. For instance, our metabolic rates tend to go down as we age, that can be the cause. I'd recommend something more like freshology to deal with your issue.
to Susi:
That'll most likely be the flu. As of now I've heard nothing about stomach ache being a side effect. But please keep me updated on your progress. Moreover, try the normal dosage first.
to Nancy:
Yes, although the more correct term for it is hormone imbalance. Amberen doesn't produce more hormone, instead it works like this:
When you enter your menopause or perimenopause stage, Communication between hypothalamus (let's say it's the head office) and hormone-producing system (let's say it's the factory) is disrupted. Their phone line was cut. The factory might want to produce or not produce hormone at all, there's lack of communication between the head office and the factory.
Amberen restores the phone line. So they can communicate again, hence start producing the correct amount of what our body thinks the balance hormone levels. Amberen is just the catalyst for a better communication between them.
I wish the best for all of you.

i went from having my periods every month to instantly no period and sever hot flashes/night sweats. but on top of that i got what i thought was a sinus infection with severe pressure in my sinuses and pressure in my ears with slight pain in my ear, and ringing in my ears…..doctors could not find an infection, so sent me to a neurologist with a brain mri….well today he tells me my symptoms are from menopause whic h is causing a kind of migraine, which is causing many of my symptoms (but couldnot explain the slight hearing loss in my right ear)…he wants to put me on this anti depressent that treats migraines and helps you sleep call trazadone, but i am one that is so leery of pharmaceuticals….so now i am seeing an endocrinologist to see if i can balance out my hormones. After doing alot of reading, i am definitely estrogen dominant and probably low on prostegerone. I am debating from trying bio-identical hormones to trying amberen but again i dont like the msg because already have the chronic headaches…any suggestions out there?
July 15th, 2010 at 4:10 pm
I am 39, had a full hysterecotomy a year ago and suffered from severe menopause symptoms. I have been using Amberen for three weeks and seems to be helping. I still have hot flashes but not as frequently. I read somewhere that a lady was on this for a year and then had kidney failure and her doctor took her off amberen. Is it possible to have kidney failure from Amberen if it is really all natural? I really don't want the risk of that.

I just placed an order for the 90 day supply – i have a few questions. Is this a hormone that cause cancer? My mother died of breast Cancer and i am terrified of Hormones but i cannot take the weight gain, depression, sleep depreviation, hot flashes, mood swings, etc….Also if i do return the product i understand it is refunded. Can you explain the charge to the credit of 149.99 after the 90 day supple please? I am excited to try your product and really don't want to be dissappointed. Please reply. Thanks, Micki

Hi,
I was treated for breast cancer 10 years ago and took Tamoxifen for 5 years because the tumor was hormone receptor positive. I've had no recurrance since then.
I've tried black cohosh for the hot flashes, but that doesn't seem to work. My question is, since I can't have hormones of any type, would Amberen cause any problems in this area?
Thanks!

Hi
I had a hysterectomy, 3 years ago, uterus gone but I have my ovaries, I have xperienced every menopause symtom, that our bodies have to offer, but I did not think to take anything, Ijust dealt with it, but last week I was researching menopause and came across Amberen reviews, I ordered it and it came in but I was scared to take it. I decided this morning after having it a week to try it. My first day, I hope it works for me, still nervous, so nervous about the side effects.
July 17th, 2010 at 9:01 pm
Mari Kai,
I will be 52 next week, I have Diabetes, 2 previous blood clots and Menopause symptoms from H*LL. My last period was 2 years ago and I've been fighting for relief from 24/7 sweating! I don't have hot flashes, I have cool spurts, they are few a far between. Because of the blood clots my Gyn will NOT let me have ANY hormones. She put me on Ergotmine (didn't help), I've tried Remifeminin (sp? didn't work), Black Kohosh (didn't work) and now Natural Relief for Women (not working)! I am at the end of my rope. Thought my weight gain was just lack of exercise, sleep deprevation – stress (unemployed), mood swing – went from nice to Royal B*** haven't come back to nice yet, depressed – stress again, etc..etc.
Your saying that Amberen will make ALL OF THIS GO AWAY?! I've been praying for 2 things 1) a job and 2) RELIEF!!! Does Amberen have ANY sugars in it? Will it really help this weight to go down? I intake less than 500 calories a day but it still goes up 1 to 2 pounds a week! Please tell me this is the answer to my #2 prayer! My #1 prayer was answered recently.
July 23rd, 2010 at 5:56 pm
To Judy – I truly hope you are still still on this site to read this. You said you were trying amberen, but you are also on wellbutrin and that you were having a problem with weight and with tinnitus. Please find out if your pharmacy switched you to generic wellbutrin without telling you. The difference is HUGE. On the real brand name Wellbutrin you lose weight, and the generic causes weight gain and tinnitus among other things. Please just check it out. I am on Amberen and it's wonderful. I also just switched to real Wellbutrin and I wouldn not go back to generic wellbutrin (Bupropion) if you paid me! Good Luck.. Colleen

have been having hit flashes/night sweats for over 5 years. I am considered post menopausal but the syptoms are still there. I have tried everything. Premaqrin, patches, piulls, nothing worked. I am not sure if I will try amberen or not, but I am very tired of not sleeping because of them. If I try it, I will give a completely honest assessment. So, I have a decision to make and soon as I believe I will have these symptoms for numerous nyears to come.

Hello,
I've been reading the testimonies about Amberen and would like to try it. I had a hysterectomy when I was 43, and was on hrt for five years before my gynie took me off. I have been using estropause for the past 5 years and the hot flashes/night sweats have intensified. I've cut down on alchol and caffeine and it doesn't seem to make a difference. I have a thyroid condition, my my thyroid under performs, and I am on synthroid, a low dosage for the rest of my life.
Would Amberen be a good fit for me? I experience ocassional insomnia and mostly hot flashes at night. I too have gained weigh.
July 29th, 2010 at 7:46 pm
Do you know if it is safe to take Amberen along with a low dose Vivelle Dot? I had a complete hysterectomy, ovaries, cervix, uterus in 2006 and have been on bioidentical hormones but they are just too expensive. Recently, my doc put me on a Vivelle Dot patch 0.0025 which is the lowest dose there is. I just want to know if taking Amberen for menopausal symptoms and also having a low dose Vivelle dot patch is ok. Thank you.

OH WOW! Ladies, My flashes are Olympic!
I drip sweat and can soak through my pj's to leave the bed wet. I have a new boyfriend and hesitate to be close to him. I have the flashes during the day and I literally wet my blouses, quite embarrassing. I worry that i smell like sweat…
Anyone else get it like this? )Searching for sympathy…)
I always ask for my Chinese food without msg because it causes my legs to swell and get heavy but I am actually thinking of trying this product, hoping that the msg dose is balanced with other ingredients so it will work in harmony. I don't know if I am allergic or if it was also the salt and soy (am allergic to wheat) that caused the uncomfort after certain oriental meals. Anyone know the comparison of amount of msg in the product with that used as a flavor enhancer in food?
A headache would be a WELCOME symptom if I could trade these flashes!!!
Thanks!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hi all. My story is I had a total hysterectomy when I was 23 due to uterine cancer. My Dr. took a 2nd biopsy because he couldn't believe it was true, but, it was.. That was in 1981. I'm 52 yrs old now. I was placed on premarin after the surgery and took it til I found out in the early 90's what was in it. The I switched to estradiol for awhile. I tried another HRT for a few years and eventually went back to estradiol. Then I went off the HRT completely for about a year about 2 yrs ago…..worst year of my life. I started taking EVAmist last year–its a spray thats applied to the forearm….I had been having problems with nausea and irritable bowel and thought it might help. But, my anxiety levels have gone up and I can't sleep most nights. Over the years I've experienced most of the symptoms everyone here has mentioned. Just in the last year I've noticed more fogginess and memory loss and high anxiety and sleepness nights. I've also had extreme vaginal dryness, some atrophy and increased urinary urges. I ordered the Amberen today after hearing about it on the radio. I've been praying for some relief from the anxiety and sleepnessness. Please keep me in your prayers that this will help me!! It's been a long, difficult road–
carol

OK Ladies I'm on Amberen and this is day 3. FYI…I was having the sweats 24/7 with 3 to 5 minute cool spurts! Since the first day I only had 1 hot flash and stayed cool until the next morning. Day 2, had one VERY MINOR hot flash in the morning, took my pills and was fine until last night before bed time and had 1 major hot flash, but slept thru the night with the fan OFF! this morning have had 1 major hot flash, took my pills and am actually a bit cold! What a relief!!! I'm hoping that it continues to improve as time goes by. Was told when I called to order that it can take 30 days or more to get this under control, but am more than satisfied so far.
I cannot take HRT so I've tried Ergotamine, Black Kohosh, Natural Relief for Women and several over the counter remedies, some together with NO relief! So far this is the only thing I have tried that has made any difference what so ever! I have not been able to sleep thru the night even with a fan blowing directly on me for the past 3 years until last night! All I can say is that if you've found nothing else that works it's worth a try! So far, so GOOD!
August 6th, 2010 at 12:40 pm
OMG!! I don't even know where to begin — I AM SO THANKFUL I TRIED THIS PRODUCT! I'm not a big believer in pills or doctors so usually just suffer through any problems my body goes through, but we all know how HORRIFIC hot flashes and night sweats are (you can't even begin to understand until you have them). My man heard on the radio last week and convinced me to log on and read about Amberen. I bought it because it gave a 30-day $ back guarantee.
It's now day number 8 and I'M NOT KIDDING — I haven't had a hot flash or night sweat in 3 days!! AND we had hot sex twice yesterday (that hasn't happened in a looonnngggg time!)
$1 a day and I'M SO HAPPY AND FEEL SO MUCH BETTER! What a great deal!
August 7th, 2010 at 5:12 am
Do I need to be completely weened from HRT before starting Amberen? I'm 57 and have been on HRT for 8 years. I weened myself slowing off recently and the severe symptoms of menopause immediately returned. I ordered Amberen, but couldn't stand the sweats and again started the HRT at a very low dose while waiting for the Amberen to arrive. I'm on my second day on Amberen.

OK – I read all the accompanying literature with the Ameren, and it says it's ok to integrate Amberen with current HRT as you wean off HRT, but I haven't had any estrogen supplements for the past three days – only Amberen (double dose) and am experiencing a dramatic decrease is hot flashes and anxiety, and have had no night sweats at all. My only remaining question is that the literature mentions a risk in taking Amberen with other prescriptions designed to alter hormones, and I take Synthroid for hypothyroid condition.

Hi, I've been off my first "dose" of Amberen for about 3 weeks and have been having some trouble with depression…can you start a new dose of Amerebe BEFORE the 3 month off period?? My moods were much better on Amberen, although my hot flashes are somewhat more intense. My husband can live with me and my hot flashes but not sure if he'll survive my moods!!!

Melanie mentioned getting MRI and being told her dizziness/lightheadedness were due to menopause. I also get dizziness/lightheaded uggghh. I had my eyes checked to see if they were culprit. Menopause is drying my eyes out–joy! Gone to PT so see if eye exercises help; they do Epley manuever with neck to help w/ vertigo. Also my ears/tinnitus from scuba diving and having bad sinus infection. Symptoms going on for 4 yrs, but I bet dizziness is from menopause. Nothing good has come from menopause, I am not the same person since menopause.

My thryoid took the plunge several years ago. I have been on the lowest dose of Synthroid and it keeps my TSH within normal range. Then, two years ago, I had large cysts on both ovaries and both ovaries were removed (family history of ovarian and uterine cancer). Wasn't long after that the hotflashes took over! I have 20+ per day, way too many at night, haven't slept well in 18+ months. Like everyone else, I've been trying to find something to help with the symptoms without nasty side affects.
I tried Black Cohosh (and various other herbs) and it did help with the hot flashes, but it affected my TSH level. My Dr. told me I'd have to adjust my Synthroid to a higher dose if I continued to take the Black Cohosh. For fear of a never-ending-adjustment process and regular blood work, I stopped taking the herbs and have been suffering with horrible hot flashes ever since.
From what I'm reading here, it sounds like Amberen works even if the ovaries have been removed.
The two cent question: Does Amberen have anything affect on the thyroid? Specifically, will it cause the TSH level to rise?
Any help would be most appreciated. Between the hot flashes and the lack of the sleep, this is affecting my sparkling personality! : )

I have just finished my first three month supply at a single dose per day. I must say that Amberen worked great within two weeks and continued to work very well until the third month when I started getting hot flashes again and some night sweats. I am concerned about stopping for the next three months and having the night sweats and hot flashes return completely. I wil be ordering my next supply and am going to try double dosage. However, I am also concerned about the MSG thing. I am sensitive to it and am wondering if the double dose will accentuate my sensitivity. I get rapid heart rate with MSG. The single dose did not seem to bother me. What are your thoughts on this?

Very strange result of taking Amberen- I've been suffering from chronic daily headaches for a long time. I started Amberen because of hot flashes and night sweats. I've been on Amberen for 2 weeks and so far the flashes and sweats are pretty much the same BUT from day one of Amberen my headache frequency has been reduced dramatically. Since a side effect of Amberen can be headaches, I find my experience puzzling but I am thrilled. If this continues my life will have been greatly improved- since the daily headaches were a nightmare I couldn't find an answer for.

The Amberen experiment didn't work for me, and I have to say they were very quick to refund my money, as promised. Good luck to all of you! I'm a very low risk for HRT, and will stay on for awhile longer.

I started Amberen taking the max dose March of this year. I ended the 90 day "on cycle" in June. During this time it did certainly cut back on those nasty flashes and night sweats. In July I started to notice the symptoms associated with "pre-period"..i.e…face blemishes, swollen breasts, tired..then boom…end of July No flashes or sweats and the return of my period. Although it was light and lasted 4-5 days I was wondering if this is Ambien related. Prior to this, I have not had my period in a year and a half. I am 51yrs old now. Just wondering if others have experienced this. I see my GYN next week for my yearly checkup so will see what he has to say.

Hello Mai,
I read every comment on your site and have decided to give Amberen a try. I exercise everyday in a gym and ballroom dance 5 nights a week. I am a very active woman. I first started experiencing hot flashes about 3 months ago. I started using Evening Primrose Oil and the flashes stopped for a few months. Now they have returned and are a lot worse. I used to sleep like a rock with all the exercise. Lately, hot flashes and sweats wake me up and I am miserable when that occurs. I purchased a menopaus vita pack from GNC and started taking that handfull of pills. I do not know if this will help, but I am willing to give it a try. The HRT route sounds dangerous and I cannot bring myself to try those drugs. I've ordered Amberen today and should receive it in a few days. I am not sure if I should discontinue the vita pack with Amberen. Vitamins in this pack by GNC sound helpful for a lot of other things. What is your recommendation?

I am posting a correction to the time frame I mentioned. I have been experiencing severe hot flashes for 3 months. These started about the first of this year. The Evening Primrose Oil calmed those down for a few months, and now they are back, with night sweats. Normally, nothing would disturb my sleep, but now I am so hot and wet that I stand if front of the refrigerator with the freezer door open in the middle of the night. This is horrible!!
