I started using Amberen a year ago at age 50 due to all of the menapausal complaints with great results from the Amberen. I have continued to use them without the 3 month break and I wondered if there is any long term effects of continued use without the 3 month break. I don't want to be without them for a day!!

I am posting a correction to the time frame I mentioned. I have been experiencing severe hot flashes for 3 months. These started about the first of this year. The Evening Primrose Oil calmed those down for a few months, and now they are back, with night sweats. Normally, nothing would disturb my sleep, but now I am so hot and wet that I stand if front of the refrigerator with the freezer door open in the middle of the night. This is horrible!!

Hello Mai,
I read every comment on your site and have decided to give Amberen a try. I exercise everyday in a gym and ballroom dance 5 nights a week. I am a very active woman. I first started experiencing hot flashes about 3 months ago. I started using Evening Primrose Oil and the flashes stopped for a few months. Now they have returned and are a lot worse. I used to sleep like a rock with all the exercise. Lately, hot flashes and sweats wake me up and I am miserable when that occurs. I purchased a menopaus vita pack from GNC and started taking that handfull of pills. I do not know if this will help, but I am willing to give it a try. The HRT route sounds dangerous and I cannot bring myself to try those drugs. I've ordered Amberen today and should receive it in a few days. I am not sure if I should discontinue the vita pack with Amberen. Vitamins in this pack by GNC sound helpful for a lot of other things. What is your recommendation?

I started Amberen taking the max dose March of this year. I ended the 90 day "on cycle" in June. During this time it did certainly cut back on those nasty flashes and night sweats. In July I started to notice the symptoms associated with "pre-period"..i.e...face blemishes, swollen breasts, tired..then boom...end of July No flashes or sweats and the return of my period. Although it was light and lasted 4-5 days I was wondering if this is Ambien related. Prior to this, I have not had my period in a year and a half. I am 51yrs old now. Just wondering if others have experienced this. I see my GYN next week for my yearly checkup so will see what he has to say.

The Amberen experiment didn't work for me, and I have to say they were very quick to refund my money, as promised. Good luck to all of you! I'm a very low risk for HRT, and will stay on for awhile longer.

Very strange result of taking Amberen- I've been suffering from chronic daily headaches for a long time. I started Amberen because of hot flashes and night sweats. I've been on Amberen for 2 weeks and so far the flashes and sweats are pretty much the same BUT from day one of Amberen my headache frequency has been reduced dramatically. Since a side effect of Amberen can be headaches, I find my experience puzzling but I am thrilled. If this continues my life will have been greatly improved- since the daily headaches were a nightmare I couldn't find an answer for.

I have just finished my first three month supply at a single dose per day. I must say that Amberen worked great within two weeks and continued to work very well until the third month when I started getting hot flashes again and some night sweats. I am concerned about stopping for the next three months and having the night sweats and hot flashes return completely. I wil be ordering my next supply and am going to try double dosage. However, I am also concerned about the MSG thing. I am sensitive to it and am wondering if the double dose will accentuate my sensitivity. I get rapid heart rate with MSG. The single dose did not seem to bother me. What are your thoughts on this?

My thryoid took the plunge several years ago. I have been on the lowest dose of Synthroid and it keeps my TSH within normal range. Then, two years ago, I had large cysts on both ovaries and both ovaries were removed (family history of ovarian and uterine cancer). Wasn't long after that the hotflashes took over! I have 20+ per day, way too many at night, haven't slept well in 18+ months. Like everyone else, I've been trying to find something to help with the symptoms without nasty side affects.
I tried Black Cohosh (and various other herbs) and it did help with the hot flashes, but it affected my TSH level. My Dr. told me I'd have to adjust my Synthroid to a higher dose if I continued to take the Black Cohosh. For fear of a never-ending-adjustment process and regular blood work, I stopped taking the herbs and have been suffering with horrible hot flashes ever since.

From what I'm reading here, it sounds like Amberen works even if the ovaries have been removed.
The two cent question: Does Amberen have anything affect on the thyroid? Specifically, will it cause the TSH level to rise?

Any help would be most appreciated. Between the hot flashes and the lack of the sleep, this is affecting my sparkling personality! : )

Melanie mentioned getting MRI and being told her dizziness/lightheadedness were due to menopause. I also get dizziness/lightheaded uggghh. I had my eyes checked to see if they were culprit. Menopause is drying my eyes out--joy! Gone to PT so see if eye exercises help; they do Epley manuever with neck to help w/ vertigo. Also my ears/tinnitus from scuba diving and having bad sinus infection. Symptoms going on for 4 yrs, but I bet dizziness is from menopause. Nothing good has come from menopause, I am not the same person since menopause.

Hi, I've been off my first "dose" of Amberen for about 3 weeks and have been having some trouble with depression...can you start a new dose of Amerebe BEFORE the 3 month off period?? My moods were much better on Amberen, although my hot flashes are somewhat more intense. My husband can live with me and my hot flashes but not sure if he'll survive my moods!!! :)
